Civil and Architectural Research Lab (CARL)
CARL is a 10,000 s.f. combined classroom and research laboratory focused on educating students about building design and construction. Exposed and color-coded building systems allow students to learn about building systems first hand. Student access to the roof for an outdoor classrooms provides students direct access to roof-top mechanical equipment, solar thermal and photo voltaic systems as well as a large 'living roof'.
Mick and Susie McMurry High Altitude Performance Center
As Associate Director of Facilities Planning for the University of Wyoming, CRAFT Principal Matt Newman provided the conceptual design for the south facade of the University of Wyoming’s 77,000 sf Mick and Susie McMurry High Altitude Performance Center. Situated on the north end zone of War Memorial Stadium, the design of the facility responds to historic campus architecture while showcasing the large investments made to create a world-class training facility for Wyoming Athletes.
West Campus Satellite Energy Plant
Craft Collaborative was commissioned to create a conceptual design for the University of Wyoming’s West Campus Satellite Energy Plant. The plant will provide additional capacity for the campus utility system allowing it to support three new large science and engineering facilities. The challenge for this project was adhering to campus design standards and the University’s Long Range Development Plan while trying to integrate a 70 ft. tall thermal storage tank in the middle of campus. Located directly adjacent to the College of Engineering and Applied Science, the design concept was to put mechanical engineering on display instead of the typical approach of concealing it. The layout of the building allows for direct to access each of the building’s systems.
Law School Addition
Serving as the Campus Architect for the University of Wyoming, CRAFT Principal Matt Newman provided conceptual design and owner’s representative services for a 20,000 sf addition to the University of Wyoming Law School. The project includes an extensive interior remodel of the existing facility and a 20,000 sf addition. The addition will provide space for the School’s law clinics, faculty offices, seminar room and multi-functional event center.
